Eriez Magnetics Europe was formed in 1974 as the group’s European sales, manufacturing, design and test headquarters. Since then, the operation has expanded rapidly to become the largest magnetic separator manufacturer in the UK and the first ever in the world to attain the international quality standard ISO 9001.

Following a spate of acquisitions including Pulse Technology (a producer of metal detectors) in 1998, Prisecter International (specialist in automatic sampling systems) in 1999, Birtley cross-belt sampling technology in 2000 and Boxmag-Rapid, one of its strongest UK competitors, in 2001. Eriez-Europe is now uniquely positioned to offer a single source for magnetic separation, metal detection, vibratory handling and material sampling equipment to protect machinery, improve product quality, enhance material handling methods and verify quality standards.

Today, Eriez Magnetics Europe employs over 90 people. It operates on a 3500 square metre site approximately 18 km. north of Cardiff, the capital city of Wales in the United Kingdom. Its offices and facilities are modern, well-resourced and include a state-of-the-art test laboratory equipped with the largest range of high intensity magnetic separation test equipment anywhere in the world, including the latest POWERFLUX superconducting magnet. There are designated areas for wet and dry material processing, a metal detector and electronic metal separator demonstration area as well as XRF analytical equipment. Customers can have a sample of their material tested to ensure that the best separation and detection equipment is chosen for a particular application and separation objective.

The Superconducting Magnet division has played a pioneering role in the field of superconducting magnet technology. Its revolutionary successes to date include the development of the POWERFLUX Superconducting High Gradient Magnetic Separator (HGMS) and of the world’s first Superconducting Suspended Electromagnet. POWERFLUX is an advanced cryogen-free superconducting magnet used for the purification of mineral slurries, notably kaolins, containing weakly magnetic impurities. It is a more compact, more efficient and far more affordable system than traditional superconducting magnets which necessitated huge initial capital investments and continual high operating costs.
